Massive Sinkhole Forces Closure of Key Orange County Road; Repairs Expected Midweek

A sizable sinkhole measuring approximately 10 feet in diameter opened up near the intersection of Santiago Boulevard and East Meats Avenue in the City of Orange over the weekend. The collapse was triggered by a failing water main beneath the roadway, which also disrupted water pressure for adjacent homes and businesses.

Emergency crews sprang into action, closing the road and cordoning off the area while structural engineers and city repair teams assessed damage and planned remediation. The sinkhole’s appearance underscored the aging infrastructure in the region and raised concerns among locals about further failures. Officials anticipate the southbound lanes will remain closed through midweek as repairs are carried out, plumbing is restored, and the roadbed is stabilized for safe reopening.
