Orange Community Encouraged to Give Blood Amid National Blood Crisis
Orange residents have an opportunity to make a potentially lifesaving difference by donating blood through the American Red Cross, which is currently calling on donors to help rebuild critically low blood supplies.
The Red Cross declared a national blood crisis in late July after summer donations fell to a four-year low. All blood types are needed, with the organization reporting particularly critical levels of Type O blood. Blood donations must be continually replenished because blood products have a limited shelf life and hospitals rely on a steady supply for emergencies, surgeries, cancer treatments and other medical care.
Those who donate during August 2026 can also receive a $20 Amazon gift card by email as a thank-you from the Red Cross. Appointments can be searched by ZIP code or sponsor code, allowing Orange residents to find upcoming community blood drives and donation opportunities that work with their schedules.
For Orange residents looking for a simple way to give back, donating blood can directly support patients throughout Southern California and beyond during a time when donations are urgently needed.
