Holiday Skate Center Prepares to Close After More Than 50 Years in Orange

For generations of Orange residents, Holiday Skate Center has been more than just a roller rink—it has been the backdrop for birthday parties, first dates, skating lessons, competitions, and countless childhood memories. After more than five decades in the community, the beloved Orange landmark is preparing to close its doors this summer.  

The rink is expected to close August 3 as the property owners pursue plans to redevelop the site into a residential townhome community. The proposal calls for 46 townhomes, but it still requires approval from the Orange City Council before the redevelopment can move forward.  

The announcement has sparked an emotional response from longtime patrons, artistic skating teams, and local families who grew up at the rink. Community members have shared stories, launched petitions, and expressed hopes that skating can continue elsewhere in Orange if the closure moves forward.  

While the future of the property remains tied to the city’s approval process, Holiday Skate Center’s legacy as one of Orange County’s last classic roller rinks is already firmly established. For many Orange residents, the rink represents decades of community traditions that will continue to live on long after the final skate session.
